Landscaping Tip from your Houston Pool Builder, The Pool Man, Inc.

Does your grass have the summertime blues? Proper soil management is the key to have a good-looking lawn. Soil compaction and shallow root systems result in stressed lawns, especially this time of year. We suggest an organic turf application of ‘Humates Plus’ now to help water and oxygen reach the roots and help fight the drought. Pool Maintenance & Landscaping Tip from your Houston Pool Service Company

Landscaping around the pool is an easy way to enhance the beauty of your backyard, but there are some precautions you should take to make sure it doesn’t negatively affect the pool. Trim back any bushes or trees that touch the water surface or come close – the less dropping in your pool the better. This can cause staining, improper chemical balance and more work cleaning the pool. Make sure there is no run-off into the pool from dirt or mulch as this will also cause staining and more work to clean the pool. Also make sure your yard has proper drainage so that things like fertilizer are not washed into the pool. For more pool maintenance tips, please subscribe to our blog or find us on Facebook. Fall Turf Care & Landscaping Tip from your Houston Pool Builder

It is that time of year where brown patch begins to develop in the lawn.  If you have an irrigation system we suggest watering only in the mornings so the grass does not sit wet overnight when fungus is likely to spread.  If you happen to see low areas in the lawn showing fungus, reach for a liquid treatment of ‘Banner’ from a local retailer.  The best way to fight fungus is to add a little amount of soil to the problem areas so they do not hold water for extended periods of time. Summer is here and the weeds are too!  One common weed that is the most stubborn is called ‘Nut grass’ or ‘Nut sedge’.  It is a grassy weed that we recommend not pulling as it promotes spreading if it is pulled.  The most efficient way to treat this is with a select herbicide indicated to treat nut grass.  Make sure to follow the label instructions prior to treating the area in question. If it is in the lawn, we suggest not mowing the grass 2 days prior and 2 days after treatment and not to water the area before or after treatment so it can absorb the herbicide. Now is the to treat your lawn for ants. They are relocating this time of year and may need a round of ant killer so they do not end up around your pool. Landscaping TipSpring has sprung and now it is time to apply a spring application of turf fertilizer.  We suggest not using a weed and feed product as it may contain hazardous chemicals for children and amphibians alike.  Reach for an organic fertilizer that will give you great results and also feed plants and shrubs. You can find a local retailer that carries ‘Microlife 6-2-4’ in Houston and surrounding areas.  http://microlifefertilizer.com/retailers/ It is time to prune back ornamental plants and the freeze damage off of plants to get them ready for the growing season.  The trees can also use a good pruning up this time of year to allow sunlight into the beds and grass.
